Nassau County residents now have a new meal delivery service available to them. On Wednesday, Massachusetts-based WECO began delivering its chef-created, from-scratch meals to Nassau, and also adding Rockland County as well as Bergen County in New Jersey to its mix.

The company got its start in March 2020 during the pandemic, as more people were dining at home.

“We know how busy families and individuals are,” Jennifer Fremont-Smith, WECO’s founder and CEO, said in a statement.

“WECO is dedicated to making it easier to decide ‘what’s for dinner’ and to gather people around the dinner table for delicious, freshly prepared meals without the hassle of cooking,” she added. “By expanding into these new towns, we’re able to reach more community members who can benefit from the freshness and convenience of a chef-crafted meal personally delivered right to their door every day.”

The company’s chefs prepare meals daily with “responsibly sourced, nutritious ingredients from farms and purveyors who share our values,” the firm said in a press release announcing its service in Nassau County.

Menus are designed each week, based on what locally and seasonably availably. These meals, prepared in a central commisary, are “driven by the creativity of WECO chefs and customer feedback.”

The company delivers the fully cooked meals in environmentally friendly packaging. Customers can then “heat, plate, and serve,” according to WECO.

With this service, no subscriptions, and no minimum orders are required. It does have a unique payment model.  According to the company’s website: “The ingredient costs for main courses + bowls are approximately $10.00-$13.00, starters + kids meals $5.00-$7.00, and mixers + dessert + breakfast $4.00-$6.00. From there, we ask people to contribute what they think is fair for our labor, overhead, and love. Most people simply double the ingredient cost, but it is still up to you!”

Fremont-Smith told The Hartford Courant that when customers “can afford to pay more, they do, and that allows us to serve those who pay a little less.”

WECO recently expanded into Fairfield County in Connecticut and as well as Westchester County. The company says its meals are now hand-delivered daily in more than 450 towns across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
